Sophie Ellis-Bextor awkwardly performs ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ at Paris terrorist attack site

Sophie Ellis-Bextor awkwardly performed her hit song “Murder on the Dancefloor” at the site of the 2015 Paris terror attacks.

The British singer performed at the Bataclan concert hall Tuesday night as part of her European tour but paid tribute to the 90 victims who died at the venue on Nov. 13, 2015, when ISIS launched coordinated attacks across the City of Light.

“It didn’t feel right to me to just waltz into a song called ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ without noting and paying tribute to the history,” she told the audience.

“It didn’t feel right to me to just waltz into a song called ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ without noting and paying tribute to the history,” she told the audience.

“All I want to say is that ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ is not a song with any evil in its heart. The whole intention of that song, like this venue, is to bring joy and music onto the dancefloor.”

Ellis-Bextor, 44, concluded her pre-performance message by honoring those who have “ever danced right here at the Bataclan.”

Although she prefaced her performance by honoring the victims, viewers on social media still felt the choice to sing the tune was in poor taste.

“I just can’t understand why!! Just no!” tweeted one X user.

“Murder on the Dancefloor,” which was first released in 2021, has seen a massive resurgence in popularity since Emerald Fennell’s film “Saltburn” hit Amazon Prime in November 2023.

The ISIS-led attacks across Paris resulted in a total of 130 deaths and hundreds injured. Terrorists opened fire on the Bataclan crowd as they watched the American band Eagles of Death Metal play.
